Packages
By Elizabeth K. Rooney

If I could wrap
a field of butterflies
I'd package them
for you.
I'd put in all the colors
and a lot of sunshine, too.
I'd gather up a summer breeze
and all the fluttering
and wrap them with brown paper
and tie them up with string.

I've only words for wrapping
and only rhymes for string.
With these, beloved of my heart,
I give you everything.
